Piti Canal : beach dive

Piti canal, guam

Piti Canal beach dive:

Piti canal is another of my favorite dive sites. Do not attempt to dive here if you have more than a two foot wave breaking on the boulders at the entrance ( it WILL hurt). You can park your car in the piti power plant parking lot (mostly dirt) and be within 15 feet of the canal. You can enter the water right next to the parking lot and swim down the canal. It's actually a nice place to swim, no waves, no deeper than 12 feet, and perfect for working on skills or playing with your camera. I've actually seen a lot of neat "life" in the canal. Swimming down the canal it gets to be about 4 foot deep and you'll see some boulders. These boulders block most of the waves going into the canal. It is quite shallow going over the submerged boulders(1-3 feet depending on tide). Once out of the canal swim perpendicular to the shore for about 75 yards and you will notice a steep drop off. The reef here is quite beautiful because very few people dive here. Watch you depth carefully here, it does get quite deep in a hurry.
