Piti Channel : beach dive

Piti Channel beach dive:

Piti channel is commonly used as a confined water training site (i use it frequently), but is also a great shallow reef dive. It takes a little swimming (best to snorkel through the channel) to get to the best parts. Near the entrerance to the ocean there are some wonderful reefs teaming with fish. You will probably not get any deeper than 30 feet. The reefs here are alive and well, please be careful not to damage them. If there are large waves breaking on the outer reef line, you don't really want to dive here. The current can get strong when the weather is bad. When waves break over the reef line all that water has to go somewhere, back out to sea. Because the channel allows the water to exit the reef into the sea easily, the current can take you offshore. It's kind of like an undertow, again, when the weather is bad. Most days you will not notice any current.
